We are grateful that you are here. 

The 1 Million Community Fruit Trees Initiative is a grassroots, collaborative effort of thousands of engaged Earth citizens to plant 1 million fruit and nut trees over the next decade!

We have created a decentralized system to empower individuals and communities to grow, distribute, plant and care for their own fruit and nut trees.

If you are interested in planting and stewarding Community Fruit Trees, please fill out this form. You can fill out just the portions you'd like.

For Fall 2026 we have 1,000 persimmon trees to be distributed within the United States (hardiness zones 4-9). 2027 will be a much bigger year, with hopefully at least 20,000 trees ready by Fall 2027.

We partner tree recipients with a local Micro-Nursery if there is one in their area, or where that doesn’t exist, we ship trees from the nearest Micro-Nursery. In 2026, with our limited number of trees, we are prioritizing providing trees to recipients closest to Micro-Nurseries. Not all who request will receive trees this year. We ship a minimum of 50 trees to use our limited resources and time wisely. This encourages recipients to make this a community strengthening endeavor by bringing together their community to have enough spaces to plant at least 50 trees. There is no minimum requirement for local pickup.

When we ship: Mid to late fall - around when the leaves begin to fall. Mid to late spring - before trees come out of dormancy.

Fruit trees are a long term investment, with a large focus being on future generations. For most nut trees, expect a few decades before meaningful production. For most fruit trees with large fruit (such as apples and persimmons) expect 12 years before meaningful production. Mulberry, hazelnut and elderberry will produce fruit after a few years and will take a handful of years to produce substantially. Do you commit to being a steward for the long-term or to organize for someone to care for these trees should you no longer be able to?

What is your proposed location(s) of the fruit trees? 
Some ideal Community Fruit Tree locations include residential front yards and businesses with access from a public sidewalk, edges of farmland with public access, medians between streets and sidewalks, schools, public parks, churchyards and along bike trails. 
(All trees must get 6+ hours of sun)

Note: We will not necessarily be able to provide the variety or quantity of each tree requested, but we'd like to focus our growing on the trees that are most desired by Stewards.
Do you have permission to plant in these locations and confidence that these locations will remain publicly accessible for the decades ahead/the trees will not be cut down?
Do you have access to mulch and compost to ensure the success of the trees and will you make sure to mulch and compost the trees?
Will you protect the trees while they are developing to ensure animals such as deer do not eat the young trees? This can be done with chicken wire or plastic tubes. Details are in the Care Guide.
Would you place signs at the trees? This can be done very inexpensively with repurposed materials. We provide templates.
Would you add the trees to our online map or send us the exact locations so we can add them to the map?
The purpose of the map is for people to be able to find Community Fruit Trees to harvest from.
Will these trees help provide food to people who have low access or financial barriers to nutritious food? (not required)
Will these trees be located in a highly visible area? (not required)
Would this be a Black, Indigenous or community of color led initiative? (not required)
