Student Support of Healthcare Workers at Harvard-affiliated Hospitals and Vulnerable Community Members
PLEASE READ IN ENTIRETY BEFORE VOLUNTEERING

** This group is NOT officially affiliated with or sponsored by any medical school or hospital system **

WHAT IS THIS?
This is the centralized volunteer form for students to help healthcare personnel (custodial staff, doctors, nurses etc) at Harvard affiliated hospitals during this unprecedented pandemic by offering different services including childcare, running errands (grocery/pharmacy runs), remote work (linking volunteers+workers) etc. We have recently expanded to also support people in the community who are older or medically vulnerable and need support with grocery delivery (the need of community member is determined by their social workers and primary care doctors). If you are willing and able to volunteer, please fill out the form below. This is in an independent student effort and is not officially affiliated with Harvard University or any hospital.

DO I QUALIFY?
If you are a student in Boston with @.edu email you qualify.
If you or any member of your household (including yourself) meets any of the following criteria, or develops any of them while working with a volunteer, you unfortunately do not qualify to volunteer at this time:
- Had COVID-19 like symptoms in the past two weeks (fever, cough, shortness of breath)
- Had explicit contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 without proper protective equipment and have not yet been tested
- Traveled outside the country with Level 3 travel warning (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices)
- Reside in a household where someone Is under active quarantine for COVID-19, even if asymptomatic
- Are not up to date on vaccinations, including annual influenza
We have asked that student volunteers who engage in childcare review the following CDC recommendations and practice social distancing and (e.g. limiting contact with other individuals as much as possible, try to keep 6ft distance between individuals, complete avoidance of groups of more than 10 people) and extensive hygienic measures (wash your hands frequently, especially before handling food, try to keep 6ft distance when possible).

In the event that anyone in your household or the hospital worker you are supporting experience symptoms or has a possible exposure to COVID-19, please contact us and services will be cancelled immediately. This is a necessary precaution to protect both our volunteers and providers.

WHO WILL I BE SUPPORTING?
A worker in one of the Harvard affiliated hospitals who is integral to the COVID-19 healthcare response. You will be asked to confirm that you are ok with the match before the connection is made. If the worker, or anyone in their household, meets or develops any of the following criteria, they do not qualify to request for houeshold/childcare support:
- Had COVID-19 like symptoms in the past two weeks (fever, cough, shortness of breath)
- Had explicit contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 without proper protective equipment and have not yet been tested
- Traveled outside the country with Level 3 travel warning in the past month (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices)
- Is under active quarantine for COVID-19, even if asymptomatic
- Are not up to date on vaccinations, including annual influenza
Household workers how do not meet the above criteria may still qualify for grocery/pharmacy delivery. These will be considered on a case by case basis and through communication with you and the hospital worker.

You may also be paired to support a vulnerable community member with grocery delivery. If you will be supporting a non-health care worker we will let you know when we reach out to you. For delivery services, we recommend the least amount of contact and strongly recommend providing delivery to the person's front door (more details will be shared when we reach out with a match).

HOW ABOUT MY OWN HEALTH?
We are committed to making this volunteering program as safe as possible for both the volunteers and workers making requests. Therefore, we have included the qualifications listed above for the health of workers, volunteers, and the public. We also strongly recommend minimal contact between you and the person you are supporting, if you are not providing childcare. However, volunteering during this pandemic is a personal decision and we appreciate your generosity in any support you provide to healthcare workers.

WHAT AGREEMENT AM I ENTERING?
This program is only to connect hospital staff and community members with available students; we are not providing training or vetting anyone. Meeting the above qualifications are based on an honor system. All arrangements, including logistics regarding self-quarantining, social distancing, and protective measures, should be discussed between the worker and the student match.

WILL I BE COMPENSATED?
This program aims to create matches for volunteers. We do not create matches that involve financial transactions. Healthcare workers are given a limit of 10 cases of support, which hopefully will provide time to find other support options.

THANK YOU
These may seem like simple tasks, but they represent a powerful method of sustaining our healthcare workforce when they are needed more than ever. In the next several weeks, our healthcare system will be inundated and this community support network will be integral.
