The Edison PTO is a 501c3 that assists the Edison community by raising funds to bridge gaps in the CPS budget and provides events to strengthen our community. The PTO is parent run and volunteers are vital to our success. Every parent is encouraged to find a way to support the PTO and Edison through their time, talent and treasure.

Below are volunteer opportunities for the 2023-24 school year. This list is not exhaustive and may change and evolve throughout the year. Please provide your contact information and share the areas you might be interested in volunteering this year.

Volunteer Opportunities

Below are a list of volunteer opportunities for the upcoming school year. Please select as many as you are interested in. A member of the PTO will reach out with more information after September 1.

On-Going Opportunities

Appreciation: Lead the teacher and staff appreciation efforts throughout the year. Maintain the calendar, work with PTO President to organize appreciation efforts and work with PTO Treasurer to report on expenses

Community Service: work with PTO and Edison staff to create one to two community service projects. Identify organizations, create content for PTO website, social media and parent newsletter. Collect and deliver goods/funds (as necessary) to community partners. Organize volunteers as necessary

Lost & Found: Assist by sorting through the Lost & Found on a monthly basis, redistribute items to lockers that have students names and coordinate a quarterly time for lost & found items to be displayed for parents to review. Identify and drop off unclaimed items for donation.

Social Media: Assist the PTO by creating and sharing relevant, up to date info the PTO Instagram and Facebook accounts. Work with other parent volunteers to identify items to share and create content as necessary

Non-Event Fundraising Opportunities

Giving Tuesday / Annual Fund: create campaign for Giving Tuesday (December, 2023). Work with PTO and school administration to fund a need. Create content for social media and parent newsletter. Promote campaign and work with PTO Treasurer to report on giving. For Annual Fund, update PTO website with annual fund information and promote throughout the year.

Trackathon (September 21, 2023)

Day of Volunteer: Assist at Trackathon in a variety of tasks. Must be available Thursday, September 21 from 7:30a - 1:30pm

Planning Committee: (assist with fundraising strategies, event planning details and volunteer coordination)

Volunteer Coordinator: Assist with engaging volunteers in advance and day of Trackathon

T-Shirt Coordinator: Assist with ordering and distributing t-shirts for Trackthon

Activities Coordinator: Plan and oversee the field activities and schedule for students to participate in on the day of Trackathon

Community Events

Game Night - October 20, 2023: Assist PTO in planning the event (selecting games and activities, working with Edison staff to coordinate spaces, create content to promote event on social media and parent newsletter, organize and solicit event volunteers, maintain budget and report back to PTO Treasurer)

Fun Fair - Last day of School: Assist PTO in planning the event (selecting games and activities, working with Edison staff to coordinate spaces, create content to promote event on social media and parent newsletter, organize and solicit event volunteers, maintain budget and report back to PTO Treasurer)

Bright Night, March/April 2024 (Spring Fundraiser)

Event Chair: Lead the committee planning Bright Night, oversee various committees, manage budget and fundraising prospects

Planning Committee: assist with fundraising strategies, event planning details and volunteer coordination

Sponsorship: assist in securing family and corporate sponsorships. Includes editing solicitation materials, updating social media, website and parent newsletter maintaining prospect list, and soliciting families and businesses

Silent Auction Solicitation: assist in securing live and silent auction items. Maintaining prospect list, editing solicitation materials and reaching out to local businesses. Assist co-chairs in creating event packages.

In-Kind Donation: assist in identifying and soliciting in-kind donations for food and beverage to offset the event expenses.

Raffle Basket Coordinator: work with room parents to help create a classroom raffle basket. Items can be donated by class or class funds used to purchase items for basket. Collect items, enter into auction website and assist with raffle basket display at event

Teacher Parties: work with teachers to create and outline teacher hosted parties to be included in the event auction. Create calendar. data entry into auction website and follow up after event with winner lists

Parent Parties: work with parents to create and outline parent parties to be included in the event auction.

Day of Event Volunteer Coordinator: Assist event co-chairs to solicit event volunteers needed for set up, day of and take down.

Auction Website Entry/Set Up: Assist in setting up Auctria website for Bright Night
