Our union (UAW 4121) will be hosting a full-day training for stewards and active union members to strengthen everyone's abilities to fulfill their roles as stewards and build the strength of our union to fight for our rights on campus.
Date: March 2
Place: Smith 105
Time: 9:30 - 5:00 PM
Tentative Schedule:
9:30 - 10:00: Coffee & mingling
10:00 - 12:30: Session 1 (Tentative: Enforcing the contract for an equitable and fair workplace - dealing with grievances and using our power to enforce our rights)
12:30 - 1:15: Lunch (Provided)
1:15 - 2:45 : Session 2 (Tentative: Who is the "union"? Who is the "boss"? What's the point of collective power on campus?)
3:00 - 5:00: Session 3 (Tentative: How to keep our power strong. What are best practices for organizing within our departments? What have we learned over the past year?)

Organzing in the department: building strong membership, getting people engaged and involved
Enforcing the contract: intake for grievances, helping people with problems that come up
Equity: recognizing cases of discrimination and harassment, strategies for fighting to improve dept climate
Power analysis: conceptualizing how we as ASEs relate to the admin, the faculty, our peers, and how that can be changed
