STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FORM
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be a graduating high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student enrolled full-time with at least 12 credit units for the fall 2015 and spring 2016 school year. Additionally, they must be taking or planning to take journalism courses and/or pursuing journalism as a career. Finally, they must be attending school in the San Francisco Bay Area or have a permanent address in the San Francisco Bay Area. Applicants need not be Asian American in order to apply.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated journalistic ability, financial need, commitment to the field of journalism and sensitivity to Asian American and Pacific Islander issues. Individual scholarships may weigh criteria differently and/or take into account other factors. All scholarship checks will be sent to the recipient's school.
AAJA-SF SCHOLARSHIPS
The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association is giving up to $8,000 this year to student journalists. Awards typically range from $500 to $2000.

AAJA membership is encouraged for all applicants and required for the selected scholarship recipients. For membership, please apply online at: www.aaja.org.
ABOUT AAJA
The Asian American Journalists Association is a national non profit organization which works to encourage Asian American and Pacific Islander students to pursue journalism careers, increase employment of Asian American and Pacific Islander journalists, promote fair and accurate news coverage of Asian American and Pacific Islander issues, and provide a source of support for Asian American and Pacific Islander journalists.

2. TRANSCRIPTS
Transcripts may NOT be sent separately. Students are responsible for acquiring school transcripts ahead of time to be submitted with the application. Copies of official transcripts are acceptable.

3. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
 • Students are responsible for collecting a recommendation letter from an employer, teacher or professor.

4. SHORT ESSAY
Essay should not exceed 500 words, must be typed and address the following: If you were awarded an AAJA scholarship, propose how you would contribute to the field of journalism and/or media issues involving the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

5. WORK SAMPLES
 • PHOTOJOURNALISM APPLICANTS: Please submit a portfolio of attachments containing no more than 8 entries. A picture story is considered one entry. Published and unpublished photographs will be considered. Entries may be black and white or color, or URLs. Attachments should be printable on 8.5”x11” paper. Complete caption information must be included along with the images.
 • PRINT APPLICANTS: Send two to five articles photocopied on attachments that can be printed on 8.5”x11” paper. Do not send tearsheets or term papers.
• BROADCAST AND MULTIMEDIA APPLICANTS: submit your work in the next entry.
BROADCAST AND MULTIMEDIA APPLICANTS
Radio applicants should send up to two stories (total length of less than 10   minutes) as streaming or downloadable links. TV applicants should send up to two stories (total length of less   than 10 minutes) as digital links on YouTube, Vimeo, or a similar user-friendly video sharing service. Multimedia applicants should send up to two digital links to stories.
