Pinewood Derby Registration
Each person registering must do so individually. Children can register using their parent’s email address.

For the first time, COIL Con presents the OHIO JOE SHOW will be hosting a Pinewood Derby. There will be two age brackets for everyone that would like to enter. Age brackets will be COIL Recruits for all kids ages 12 and under and COIL Officers for all persons above age 12. Each bracket will have trophies for 1st through 3rd place for winners in their respective brackets and 1st through 3rd place in each bracket for Best Design. Derby car kits can be purchased at any hobby store such as Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. Below are the rules:

ALL CARS MUST PASS INSPECTION TO QUALIFY FOR THE RACE

Following are the inspection points

1. The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces. The official race scale shall be considered final.
2. The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
3. The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
4. The maximum height of the car cannot exceed 5 inches (Adjust this limit so that the cars will pass under your finish gate).
5. The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
6. The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.
7. The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block may be shaped any way that is desired.
8. The wheels supplied with the kit must be used. The wheels may not be cut, drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam from the wheels.
9. The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They may be polished or lubricated.
10. Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
11. The car must not ride on any type of springs.
12. The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
13. No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot, may be used.
14. All cars must have the entrants name on the bottom of the car.

Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it will be allowed to compete. The Inspection Committee has the responsibility to disqualify those cars that do not meet these specifications.

Cars can be decorated in any fashion the entrant wants as long as it does not break the rules above. Parents are allowed, and encouraged, to help their child with their car. Let’s have some fun!
