2019 Horace Buddoo Teachers of Tomorrow Scholarship - $500USD
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HORACE BUDDOO TEACHERS OF TOMORROW SCHOLARSHIP
All applicants for The Community Scholarship must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Must be a Jamaican national
2. Must have graduated from high school in Jamaica
3. Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing an Education Major
4. Must be in financial need / must have experienced financial hardship in your life
5. Must attend in person scholarship reception on Saturday, August 31st

The Grace Scholarship Fund was founded in 2013 to provide academic scholarships, service opportunities and leadership experiences for young Jamaican students of outstanding promise. The fund provides scholarship winners with the financial assistance to help them attend colleges, universities and trade schools both domestically and abroad. Our hope is that recipients will go on to achieve exemplary success in the classrooms and in their chosen fields of expertise – all the while, making Jamaica proud!

ABOUT MR. HORACE BUDDOO
Horace Buddoo is an author, educator, speaker, education consultant & communications coach.

From the first day he stepped into the classroom as a substitute teacher back in 2003, Horace Buddoo knew that it was the beginning of a lifelong and rewarding journey in education. He is originally from Jamaica but has lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for most of his life. Horace has been recognized my many media outlets such as NBC6 and National Public Radio (NPR) for his contribution to education but one of his most treasured recognition was when he received a Mayoral Proclamation from the City of Pembroke Pines for his work as a Master Teacher in 2013.

Horace has been very active in educational consulting at the state level. He has served on the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) Mathematics Achievement Level Description Panel, the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) Standard Setting Educator Panel, and the FSA Mathematics Item Content Review Panel. He is also a part of the "Leadership in Education" panel which is run by Leadership Florida and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This 34-member panel includes accomplished superintendents, school board members, principals, teachers, state education department professionals, education foundation representatives, association leaders, business partners and other public officials around the state of Florida. Horace was also involved in Better Lessons Master Teacher Project which is another project that was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The goal of this project was to write math curriculum that reflecting the changing standard shifts that were adopted my the majority of the United States.

Recently, Horace was able to get one step closer in his commitment to change education in the United States by going to Finland to study their world-renown educational system first hand back in 2017. Horace has also collaborated with the University of Michigan's Graduate School of Education in their "TeachingWorks" program. This project aims to improve teacher training by researching and modeling highly impactful and effective teaching. TeacherWorks also seeks to provide resources pedagogical improvement aimed towards new teachers as well as seasoned teachers.

Horace has recently been selected by Legacy Magazine as one of South Florida's "40 under 40" Honorees for 2017 for his leadership in education.

Horace Buddoo is an established communication coach and the principal consultant of his company called “Use Your Speak”. He has also been the organizer and curator of two successful TEDx events. He has coached scores of TEDx speakers and helped them to craft and deliver extraordinary TEDx Talks. Horace is also a co-author of a book entitled “Speak Up: The Ultimate Guide to Dominate in the Speaking Industry”, in which he gives practical advice to those who aspire to step on the TEDx stage and is currently working on a second book.

In addition to his aforementioned experiences, Horace is currently also the Director of Speaker Relations & Engagement for the Miami VR Expo as well as the Director of the Breakthrough Miami FIU Growlight Summer Program for high school students interested in urban planning, design, and 3D printing.

Horace is an alumnus of the Florida International University in Miami, FL. His undergraduate studies were for a B.A. in Sociology and a B.A. in Anthropology. His graduate studies are for his M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction concentrating in Mathematics Education

Horace has given numerous talks and lead numerous workshops on teacher education. With a passion for success, helping others and making the world a better place, Horace Buddoo infuses these principles into his teaching, his speaking, his coaching, and his consulting.

SCHOLARSHIP CONDITIONS
Scholarships may be used for funding related to current enrollment by the student at an accredited college or university. Students may use the scholarship funds to help cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, room and board, computers, health insurance, study abroad and other college related expenses.

 Application Deadline – Sunday, July 21st, 2019. No exceptions. All eligible applications are due by 11:59pm EST.
