Welcome, fellow mortals! So, you're interested in talking about death, eh? Or at least curious to see what this is all about?
Simply put, we sit in a circle and talk about death and dying. Not in a Gothic, holding-hands kind of way, but casually, with refreshments, no obligation to speak, just a gathering of folks interested in focused discussion--similar to a book club. If Barbie thinks about dying, you probably do, too. But we can't just spring these conversations on our friends, our baristas, or our bartenders, so where do we go to get these topics off our chests? Enter the death cafe.
There is a need in our communities for space where we can discuss our one shared guarantee: death. There is a need in our communities for space where we can be curious, genuine, and listen to new perspectives. There is a need in our communities for space to remember we are NOT immortal.
A Death Cafe is NOT:
Therapy
Grief Counseling
Trauma Dumping
A Death Cafe CAN be:
Energizing
Uplifting
Enlightening
