Every four years the IOC brings some great new technology to cover the Winter Olympics. Next years games in Sochi, Russia, will be no exception. From athlete motion-tracking to on-demand video offering hundreds of viewing angles.

But why should they get to have all the fun? Some of us don't have time to become professional athletes!

What if we could bring together Europe's tech community (and beyond) for a week of winter sports and après-ski? Sponsors would provide sensors, monitors, and devices for us to capture all the action. We would build apps to visualise and manipulate the data collected from our days spent on the mountain then use it to hold competitions across different disciplines.

Biggest air, fastest straight line speed, hardest wipeout, highest blood / alcohol content... just a few we have come up with.

We'd finish the week with medal ceremonies. Winners would be presented with cheap bags of wine. Post-event scandals would almost certainly emerge.

Thing is...

...this is just a dream. We are currently trying to gauge if anyone else shares in our dream.

First and foremost, this is trip would be designed as a holiday. It won't be a hackathon, hackday, hackfast, hack... you see where this is going, right? The emphasis will be on getting out onto the mountain - not spending a week locked in a room writing code.

You won't need to be a developer or designer to come along either (although an interest in quantified self is a given).

The plan is to rent a number of chalets to form a Tech Olympic Village. If demand is high enough we can get flights and transportation organised. Volume discounts for ski passes, equipment and insurance can also be sorted.

Forgive the TBC's, but here's a quick (and very rough) breakdown:
