The Handmaid's Tale Online Fanbase Survey

This survey is part of a research project for NYU exploring The Handmaid’s Tale’s online fanbase: a global community of readers and viewers who engage with Margaret Atwood’s novel and Hulu’s television adaptation. The goal of this study is to understand how fans use digital spaces (specifically on Reddit) to discuss the story’s themes and connect them to real-world issues of gender, power, and resistance.

Your responses will assist with the general understanding on how audiences use popular media not only as entertainment, but as a way to process and respond to current political and social realities. By examining how The Handmaid’s Tale inspires dialogue, creativity, and advocacy, this project aims to explore the power of storytelling in shaping community and social awareness.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous, and all insights gathered will be used solely for educational research purposes. The survey should take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete.

Thank you for helping us better understand how stories like The Handmaid’s Tale resonate beyond the screen and page to influence real world conversations and collective action.
