MLive Detroit Game of the Week - BOYS: Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (1/30, 7:30 p.m.) *
Both teams come into the matchup with identical 8-2 records but Christian is 7-0 in the MIAC while Liggett is 5-1. It is the firts meeting between the two and there is a lot of young talent on both teams. Going with the Eagles in this one as junior Marlo Brown has a big night for the Eagles. PURCELL'S PICK: Southfield Christian 65, Liggett 58
GIRLS: North Farmington at Rochester Adams (1/30, 7 p.m.) *
The Oakland Activities Association Red Division is a gauntlet this year and both teams are just looking to keep pace. Adams (10-1) is coming off its first loss of the season to Clarskton while North Farmington (10-3) has two of its losses within the division already. This is a tough one but I think Noth Farmington gets a big game out of Megan Carter again and wins a close one. PURCELL'S PICK: North Farmington 56, Rochester Adams 54
BOYS: Canton at Westland John Glenn (1/30, 7 p.m.) *
This is already the second meeting between these two teams as Canton won the first matchup on its home court 53-48 in early January. Canton, now 10-1 and 5-0 in the KLAA South, will look to distance itself even further from the rest of the pack as John Glenn (4-7, 3-2) is in a three-way tie in the division. The first time around may have been a close on but Canton will look a little more dominant this time around. PURCELL'S PICK: Canton 54, John Glenn 40
BOYS: Madison Heights Bishop Foley at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep (1/30, 7:30 p.m.) *
These two Catholic League AA teams met back on Jan. 13 with Notre Dame Prep (8-3, 3-1) pulling off a 57-54 win. Bishop Foley (5-6, 2-2) loss to Notre Dame Prep was the last of a four-game skid. Foley is 3-1 since then and will be looking for a big road win to keep itself in the race for a Catholic League tournament seed. Still, Notre Dame Prep wins at home. PURCELL'S PICK: Notre Dame Prep 59, Bishop Foley 52
GIRLS: Macomb Lutheran North at Dearborn Divine Child (1/30, 7:30 p.m.) *
Divine Child loves a challenge and that is why it put Lutheran North on its schedule. Despite Lutheran North being from the lesser Catholic League AA Division, it is hard to ignore their 10-2 record. Yet, Divine Child (8-4) is too battle tested in the Catholic League Central Division and will bounce back from its loss to Mercy. PURCELL'S PICK: Divine Child 55, Lutheran North 40
GIRLS: Waterford Mott at White Lake Lakeland (1/30, 7 p.m.) *
This game could have some key KLAA North Division implications. With Waterford Kettering sitting at 5-0 in the division, both Mott (9-2, 4-1) and Lakeland (7-4, 3-2) are looking to keep pace. Mott won the first matchup, 53-41, at the beginning of January. Despite Mott being on the road for this matchup, I still think the fate of the KLAA North will be decided between Mott and Kettering. PURCELL'S PICK: Mott 51, Lakeland 45
BOYS: Utica Eisenhower at Romeo (1/30, 7 p.m.) *
These two teams had a great series against each other last year and they both meet for the first time this season. Eisenhower is 7-4 but 2-3 in the MAC Red while Romeo is 4-5 but 3-2 in the division. There may not be league title race implications this time around but there is a lot of pride to play for. Just Greason (6-foot-10) will have a big night on the boards in a close win. PURCELL'S PICK: Eisenhower 55, Romeo 51
GIRLS: Detroit Cass Tech at Detroit Country Day (1/31, 1 p.m.) *
Cass Tech (8-3) is one of the top teams in the PSL but will face a whole different kind of challenge when it travels to Beverly Hills to face 11-0 Country Day. Cass Tech does have some good skill and quickness but Country Day is too deep and talented to drop this game. PURCELL'S PICK: Country Day 63, Cass Tech 50
GIRLS: Northville at Salem (1/30, 7 p.m.) *
Salem started the season 0-4 but has since won seven straight, sitting alone in first place in the KLAA Central with a 5-0 division record. Northville started off 5-0 but since has gone 3-3 and sits at 3-2 in the Central. Going with the hotstreak here as Salem sweeps the season series against the Mustangs. PURCELL'S PICK: Salem 49, Northville 40
BOYS: Detroit Martin Luther King at Detroit Henry Ford (1/30, 4 p.m.) *
King is sitting at jusy 2-5 in PSL play while Henry Ford is 4-3. Both teams imagined better records by this point but have each shown that they can compete well on any given night. Going with Ford and Josh Davis in this one. PURCELL'S PICK: Ford 67, King 61
