Join the Soil Your Undies Challenge!
This fun, easy, and impactful campaign helps test soil health by burying a new pair of cotton underwear and seeing how much they decompose over 60 days. The more the underwear degrades, the healthier your soil is!
How to Participate:
- On April 22nd, bury a new pair of cotton underwear near root systems in your yard (~6 -8 inches).
- Mark the location with a flag or other marker so you can easily find it later.
- On June 24th, dig up the underwear and take a photo of it.
- Share the photo along with some details about your soil.
- Join us on Saturday, June 28th for a virtual "Reveal" event to learn more about soil health.
Why Participate? Healthy soil is full of microbes that break down organic matter, cycle nutrients, and prevent erosion. The Soil Your Undies Challenge is a fun way to measure these microbial activities in your soil.
Free Cotton Underwear for All Registered Participants! All participants must register to receive a free pair of cotton underwear for the challenge. Even if you’ve participated in the past, we encourage you to join again!
By participating, you’ll be asked to share your results with the Oswego Lake Watershed Council (OLWC). Rest assured, participation is confidential — no personal information will be shared without your permission.
