Anime USA 2018 Panel Submission Form
Deadline, August 1st

Thank you for your interest in proposing a panel or workshop for Anime USA 2018. With the space and layout we have available to us this year, we are hoping to give our attendees and panelists their best experience ever. Our panel selection team is looking forward to digging in and finding the gems among our submissions to put on our schedule grid this year. We will be placing a lot of our focus on new panel ideas in order to offer our attendees a fresher experience. So, while we do love the classic panels, the new and compelling will certainly get our attention.

When proposing a panel, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1 - An engaging subject: It's just fine if you want your panel to be geared toward a niche, like a specific series. We all love a good Love Live, Mass Effect or Evangelion panel. In such a case, however, you should strive for a unique approach, not just a lecture on a topic. Opening up for theoretical discussion or spending some time trying to tackle some unanswered questions in your subject matter are two strong suggestions.

2 - Interactivity: The most surefire way of getting an attendee to take something away from your panel is to involve them. Having open discussions on subjects, asking questions of your audience and making them feel like they are part of the presentation will keep them talking about it long after your time block is over.

3 - Something new: Nowadays, finding something new to talk about is more difficult than ever. People run panels on shows, games, bands and just about every aspect of anime and Japanese culture you can think of. The panels that stand out, though, are the ones that approach it from a new angle. If you like a certain game and want to discuss it, why not include other games in the same genre to compare and contrast? What makes yours stand out? How do you think sequels would be approached? These are all things that will stand out to the selection committee.

2018 Reimbursement Policy:

New in 2018: If you presented a panel for us in 2017, you're automatically qualified for a comped badge if your panel is approved. If you did not present for us in 2017 and your panel is approved for this year, you may qualify for reimbursement if you meet the following criteria: you must perform 120 scheduled minutes of panels (60/60 or 120). With 120 minutes of programming, you are entitled to full reimbursement on two (2) badges, for you and one other panelist on your team. If you perform additional programming, of any duration, beyond this 120 minutes, you will be afforded one additional badge reimbursement for every panel. For example, if you perform one panel of 120 minutes, you will be reimbursed for two of your team members. If you perform an additional 60 minute panel, you will be reimbursed for a third member of your team.

To make this process as easy as possible, please have the real name of every member of your team listed on all submission forms, and in the same order. Reimbursements will take up to 6 weeks from the end of con to be processed.

If your panel is NOT accepted, we will send you a coupon code to apply to the purchase of your badge that will reduce the cost to what the discounted price was at the time of your panel submission. For example, if you submitted your panel in June and it was denied, you will receive a code to purchase your badge for that current promotional price active during that time.

Panel Time Requirements:

While you will be able to select 60 and 120 minute blocks, your actual panel time will be 50 and 110 minutes, taking setup and breakdown times into consideration. We understand that certain situations, like Q&A sessions, may cause your running time to fall short of your allotted time block. In order to fully qualify for reimbursement, please make sure you have enough backup content to fill your entire time slot.

90 minute blocks will be considered for certain panels in the Education and Theme category, but are subject to approval.

Panel Tech Requirements:

Panel rooms will afford you a projector and audio setup as well as microphones for larger rooms. If you are using a non-conventional connection for audio or video (something other than VGA or HDMI) please have necessary connectors and wires with you. We CANNOT guarantee availability of these accessories.
