The 3rd Annual Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Awards is a program designed to recognize faculty, staff, students, and community partners who have done exceptional work in service-learning and civic engagement at BGSU.
Please complete each section of the nomination form, paying special attention to each question in Section II which detail the nominee's activities, accomplishments, and contributions that support the criteria of the award. Although not necessary, including details such as dates and locations is helpful.
All forms must be submitted by Monday, March 18th. All nominees will be honored at an awards ceremony in April.
As you begin to write your nomination, below are a few definitions that may be helpful:
- Service-learning: Credit-bearing educational experience in which individuals: “(a) participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs, and (b) reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of curricular content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of personal values and civic responsibility." (Bringle, R.G. and Hatcher, J.A., 1995)
- Civic engagement: Working to make a difference in: "(a) the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference, and (b) promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes." (American Democracy Project, 2000)
