SciNOW Student Application Form
We’re so glad you’re interested in participating in the SciNOW club! This is a special club for those who want to learn more about Science. Members of the SciNOW club must also be responsible, have good conduct and good grades in each of their classes.
WHO:
The SciNOW Club is open to any 4th or 5th grader who:
- Wants to learn more about science
- Maintains a grade of 75 in all subjects—no exceptions!
- Has good conduct (E or S) in all classes
- Has no discipline referrals
- Can be a role model for all other students on campus
- May want to compete in science competitions in middle and/or high school
- Completes the science questionnaire with sincerity.
The atmosphere of the SciNOW Club must be free from disruptions. Students who are not serious about science may take time away from those students who really want to be there. Students who cannot maintain these standards will be removed from the club and will not be able to rejoin.
**The SciNOW Club will be limited to 15-30 students who turn in their completed application and meet all of the above criteria. We wish that every student who shows interest in science could belong to the SciNOW Club but that is not possible at this time. So, the members must meet ALL criteria. Sorry, NO EXCEPTIONS.

- Be better prepared to participate in science competitions in middle and high school
- Conduct cool experiments and enhance their knowledge of the scientific method
WHEN/WHERE:
The SciNOW Club will meet every other week of each month from 3:10-4:40. Schedules will be given out once names have been released. Members are expected to have reliable transportation to pick them up on time each week. Students should be picked up in the front of the school. Students will not be allowed to walk home alone. (More information about Science club activities will be sent to students and parents before the first club meeting.)

The purpose of the SciNOW club is to provide an opportunity for your child to participate in science learning and exploration in a smaller, structured, yet grade-free environment.

Permission Form
By signing this permission form, I hereby give permission for my child to be a member of the SciNOW Club. I understand that he/she will be attending SciNOW club meetings after school from 3:10 – 4:40PM on two days of each month and I must provide transportation for my child promptly at 4:40PM. I also understand that if my child is not picked up on time, they may be removed from the SciNOW club for the remainder of the year.
To promote, evaluate, or otherwise describe the SciNOW Club programs and activities, I give permission to Fort Bend ISD and its agents to use the following media in connection with any publication (including but not limited to brochures, booklets, reports, press releases, websites, and exhibits)
We also understand that by agreeing to participate in SciNOW club, my child
1. May conduct some science experiments in the SciNOW club. Members may be required to bring some common household materials such as foil, straws, and Ziploc bags. A list will be e-mailed to parents of all supplies at least one week prior to meeting.
2. Will participate in quizzes and competitions that will test the understanding of covered topics. This is required to familiarize the members for possible future competitions.
3. Will take notes and/or give their undivided attention to teachers in the SciNOW club.
