Men of Color Symposium 2019
The Men of Color Symposium 2019 will take place at the Trotter Multicultural Center on State Street on April 13th, 2019 from 9AM - 3PM. This year's theme is: Finding Your Flow. Join us we come together to make meaning of our U-M experience. The symposium is open to all students, staff, & Faculty. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
This year the focus will be on building Connections as it relates to helping men of color navigate the spaces they show up in around campus and in their communities. The title of the conference “Finding Your Flow” also relates to helping students find their way when navigating the relationships and spaces around campus and in their community as men of color. Our goal this year is to engage the audience in valuable dialogue through promoting the value of Connections to aid students in finding their flow as men of color. This year, the symposium encompasses the following themes:
*Connecting with others/Community Building
*Cross cultural learning/ Identity Development
*Navigating Campus/Educational Purposes
*Cross Cultural Learning
The event is designed to attract and bring together self-identified Men of Color on the University of Michigan campus and open to all primarily focusing on all students, staff, professors, and educators. Improving the retention and persistence rates of students, continues to be a major topic in higher education. One of the main focuses of the symposium is to recruit qualified and diverse students to network, connect and increase opportunities to discuss graduation. Also creating conducive space for recruiting, continuing education as prospective graduate students, careers seekers, and community supporters.
The goal is to bring students and the community together from all stages in the education process, professional, graduates to undergraduate while demystifying the connections that allow students to thrive and succeed in higher education.
The program will coincide with an impactful host Andarius Taylor, keynote Dr. Derrick Darby and breakout sessions that will identify opportunities for students to engage in the following; Identity development, sharing of resources, community building, networking, cross cultural learning, connecting with professionals and graduate students. This year’s theme is Connections and the title of the symposium will be “Finding your Flow.” April 13th, 2019 from 9AM - 3PM
