Acting for Beginners -Alla Stage Left

A 10-session acting workshop by Stage Left Ever wondered what it really means to act?

Acting for Beginners – Alla Stage Left is an intensive 10-session workshop designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of acting in a practical, playful and supportive environment. Led by acting trainers Summer Galal and Fahd Ibrahim, the workshop will take participants through the essential tools an actor needs , from discovering their physical and vocal presence, to building characters, working with scene partners, understanding text and making confident choices on stage.

You don’t need to have acted before. No previous acting experience is required, although previous experience is also welcome.

Over five weeks, participants will learn through exercises, games, improvisation, practical exploration and scene work. The emphasis is on learning by doing: getting on your feet, experimenting, taking risks and discovering what works. WHAT WILL WE EXPLORE?

Throughout the workshop, participants will be introduced to:

 - Acting games and exercises
 - Improvisation and spontaneity
-  Presence and confidence on stage
 - Listening and reacting
- Working with scene partners
 - Character development
 - Objectives, intentions and actions
 - Emotional availability and truthful performance
 - Understanding and working with text
 - Scene analysis
 - Creating believable relationships between characters
 - Making strong acting choices
 - Working with space and the audience
 - Building a performance from rehearsal to presentation

The workshop is designed to help participants develop not only acting techniques, but also curiosity, confidence, imagination, listening skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

THREE SPECIALIST MASTERCLASSES:

Alongside the core acting sessions, participants will take part in three masterclasses with specialists / experts from different areas of theatre.

 VOICE TRAINING with Nanda Mohammad:

Discover the actor’s voice as a physical and expressive instrument.
The session will explore breath, vocal awareness, projection, articulation and how to use the voice with greater freedom and intention.

WORKING WITH DIRECTORS with Mahmoud Sayed:

What happens when an actor enters a rehearsal room with a director? This masterclass will introduce participants to the collaborative relationship between actor and director, exploring how to receive direction, make adjustments, ask questions, take notes and turn a director’s ideas into concrete acting choices.

 ACTORS’ PHYSICALITY with Mirette Mechail:

Acting doesn’t only happen through words. The body communicates constantly.

This masterclass will explore physical awareness, movement, posture, gesture, space and the relationship between the actor’s body and their character — helping participants become more conscious and expressive physical performers.

FROM EXERCISES TO SCENE WORK:

The workshop will gradually move from individual exercises and games into practical scene work. As the sessions progress, participants will begin applying the techniques they have discovered to actual scenes, working with scene partners and receiving guidance from the trainers.
The workshop will culminate in a small closed showcase of scene work, giving participants the opportunity to put their learning into practice and experience the process of preparing a performance.

This isn’t about creating perfect actors in five weeks. It’s about taking the first step into the world of acting, discovering your tools and experiencing what it feels like to build a performance with others.
