Flat Track Fever 2022 Officials Application
Chinook City Roller Derby, tournament head referee Jenn U. Whine and tournament head NSO DX Zone are thrilled to invite officials to the return of Flat Track Fever, on May 7-8, 2022, at Acadia Rec Centre, Calgary, Alberta.  Please read this information carefully as the 2022 edition of FTF will be different from past years.

Recognizing that the sport of roller derby is only just beginning its recovery from the Covid-19 crisis, FTF 2022 will be a scaled down event from previous years. We expect to offer eight to 10 games of recreational flat track roller derby under the current WFTDA / MRDA rules on a single track over two days. Officials can expect a mix of regulation games between western Canadian teams, and black and white scrimmages for skaters who are ready to return to play but are not able to participate with a team. Games may include adult open gender, adult womens, and juniors. Organizers will emphasize safe, enjoyable play over competition, and all participating skaters will be reminded that officials are also just returning to gameplay.

While we very much wish that we could know what protocols for Covid-19 will be in force or recommended as of the date of the tournament, unfortunately we do not. We must therefore advise that the tournament will be run under the stricter of either, MRDA Return to Play protocol, or Alberta Health policy in effect at the date of the tournament. Chinook City Roller Derby further reserves the right to impose such policies as it sees fit in the sole discretion of its Board of Directors for the protection of its members, athletes, and volunteers.  Should you have concern about your ability to comply with any such restrictions or policies, please contact the head officials at jennuwhinederby@gmail.com or dxzone128@gmail.com

This application will remain open until March 31, 2022.  The head officials will make all efforts to offer positions to officials who were accepted to FTF 2020, so long as those officials can confirm that they are making reasonable efforts to be ready to return to active officiating by May 2022. Unfortunately, due to the change in the size and scope of the tournament, we may not be able to offer the exact position that an official was offered for the cancelled event in 2020. Early acceptance prior to the deadline may also be offered to qualified officials traveling from outside Alberta who need additional time to make travel arrangements; please contact the head officials if you wish to request this option.
