Commercial Maryland Native Plants List” includes plants that are native to Maryland, commercially available, and appropriate for growing in residential or commercial landscapes. The legislative bill defines “native plant”
as a plant that occurs naturally in the State and surrounding region, ecosystem, and habitat, without direct or indirect human actions. This includes plants that were present before colonial settlement or are listed as native to the State on the Maryland Plant Atlas website. A cultivar or hybrid of a native plant may be included if the straight species can no longer fill its ecological role.
The Commercial Maryland Native Plants List is a living document that is updated regularly. Please fill out this form if you would like to have a species added to the list. Your request will be reviewed by an advisory board made up of members from UMD Extension, Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Maryland Native Plant Society.
