Ultrasound Imaging Screening Consent
WHAT IS ULTRASOUND IMAGING?
Ultrasound imaging uses harmless sound waves to create a live picture of your muscles, tendons, and joints while they move. Unlike an MRI, it shows your body in motion so we can see how your tissues respond in real time. It is completely safe, painless, and involves no radiation.
This kind of screening can reveal things that don't show up on a standard physical exam, including early signs of tendon stress, movement restrictions, or tissue changes that haven't become painful yet. It is also useful at confirming suspected injuries.
The screening covers the shoulders and elbows. Gel will be applied directly to the skin in those areas. We recommend wearing a sleeveless top or loose clothing that can be easily stretched or moved aside. If needed, gowns that unbutton around the shoulder will be available.
If the idea of watching your own muscles and joints under ultrasound feels uncomfortable, or if you would simply prefer a regular physical examination without imaging, just let us know. Either option works and there is no pressure either way.
