Young Feminist Fellowship for Climate Justice
Mobilizing Women for Climate Justice: Leadership, Influence and Movement Building

FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund (FRIDA)
Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO)

Final Deadline: Friday, October 11th, 2015

2015 is a critical year for climate justice with the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations and the lead up to COP21. Together with many partners and allies, FRIDA and WEDO are working towards a strong, ambitious commitment by world leaders at COP21 in Paris this December, one which ensures just climate actions that respect and advance women's human rights and gender equality.

One of the main objectives, in the lead up to COP21, is to build capacity and support the mobilization of women across all regions in terms of leadership, advocacy, and movement building. This includes strategically working to ensure that the perspectives of young feminists are included in local, national, and regional climate justice initiatives. In order to effectively highlight and communicate the importance of feminist voices and actions from civil society and frontline communities as well as the importance of gender quality and climate justice, media will play a critical role during the UNFCCC negotiations.

Through the Mobilizing Women for Climate Justice Project, a global campaign, The Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice, was launched and is rapidly mobilizing women and facilitating endorsements and actions for gender and climate justice. In line with the project and campaign, FRIDA and WEDO have partnered to support a Young Feminist Fellowship for Climate Justice.
The young feminist advocate selected for the fellowship will take on a six month Fellowship, in partnership with WEDO and FRIDA, to support outreach and advocacy on engaging young feminists in the Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice. This Fellowship can be undertaken remotely, and will include a stipend of $1000 USD a month, in addition to travel and accommodation during the upcoming COP21 negotiations in Paris.

In particular, the Fellowship will support a young woman from the global south already engaged in feminist movement building / resilience efforts across a range of justice issues. The Fellow should have excellent media and communications skills and be able to travel to Paris in December. During the negotiations, the fellow’s responsibilities will include communicating the stories and key policy asks of the women rights and feminist activists in innovative and compelling ways.

Support: General support in terms of logistics, coordination, and production will be provided by FRIDA and WEDO. Travel support will include transportation to and from the upcoming UNFCCC negotiations, accommodation, and a daily subsistence allowance (DSA). In addition, the fellow will receive a stipend.

Expectations: The fellow will attend the meetings as representatives of FRIDA, WEDO and The Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice. The fellow will coordinate media and outreach strategies, produce content towards young feminist networks, and engage effectively with allies and partners across CSO Constituencies of the UNFCCC, and FRIDA’s community of young feminist organisers.

Applications: The fellow must be able to attend the COP21 negotiations and be under 30 years of age at the time of application. Preference will be given to young feminists from the Global South. Individuals representing indigenous and/or migrant communities are encouraged to apply. All fully completed applications will be considered.
