GSAS Student and Postdoc Funding Requests
The Office of Career Strategy allocates part of its limited funds to support groups organizing activities related to non-academic career exploration and development. Graduate groups currently registered with the McDougal Graduate Student Life office may request modest funding from this office. In addition, postdoctoral groups, such as YPA, may apply for funding.

Typical OCS funding awards are $100-$300 per event or group. Some larger groups or events can request up to $400 per term for large-scale activities, but this is rare. OCS funding is by reimbursement for documented expenses after the event. In rare instances, OCS can pay for internal Yale costs (room rental, media, security) in advance by internal charge.
Funding Guidelines

OCS will fund:
1. Supplies and materials for events on campus
2. Room rental, security, custodial or Media Services fees, mainly at Yale
3. Snacks, soft drinks and light foods
4. Travel costs for external speakers
5. Posters, printed materials and publicity, but these should be used sparingly for sustainability reasons

OCS will NOT fund:
1. Alcoholic beverages
2. Travel costs by Yale graduate students to attend conferences, competitions, career search activities, or meetings
3. Fees paid to graduate student members of the group for services rendered (e.g., webmaster, treasurer, MC, etc.)
4. Rental of cars or other transportation for out of area travel or reimbursement for use of personal vehicles (also not
recommended due to liability)
5. Durable equipment (computers, camera, media) or ongoing supplies
6. Prizes, gift cards, and awards for individuals
7. Funds for direct donation to a local or national charity or non-profit
8. Conferences at Yale or regular academic or research-related graduate student colloquia - please see the GSAS Dean’s funds for funding for these kinds of events.

Funding Process
1. Submit the OCS Funding Request Form 3 weeks in advance.
2. OCS will not accept funding requests within one week of an event and will not fund events that have already occurred.
3. OCS will review and reply within 5-7 business days. All funding decisions are final.
4. Groups that receive funding must clearly acknowledge the support of the Office of Career Strategy in their publicity and programs. Failure to do so may jeopardize current reimbursement and any future funding requests. In your emails, posters, Facebook posts, and website, you must use a phrase such as “with support from the Office of Career Strategy” or “With partial funding from the Office of Career Strategy.”
5. Groups must submit an event announcement to the OCS GSAS/postdoc newsletter no later than Thursday 5pm prior to the week you would like the event included. To submit an event, use this link (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/145lLHqvLcNkyHq0vRLRr2QACGQxX_6gcUkBdIpG1FtA/viewform?c=0&w=1&usp=mail_form_link)
6. After the event, submit your Post-event Reimbursement Form and Receipts.
