This guide has been written to make the data transfer process between Nintendo 3DS/2DS systems and New Nintendo 3DS systems easier. Because the New Nintendo 3DS only accepts MicroSD cards, and because there are also hardware bundles being released that have pre-installed software on them, the data transfer process has gotten quite complicated depending on your situation.

By answering the questions in this guide, you will be given a clear step-by-step solution specifically tailored to your situation.

IMPORTANT
( ! ) Do not make a Nintendo Network ID on your New Nintendo 3DS system, unless it's your first Nintendo 3DS system. This will make a system transfer impossible, and if you bought a hardware bundle with pre-installed software, you will lose the license to the included game. (A NNID is different from the standard set up process when you power on the system for the first time).

( ! ) You will need a Phillips #0 or #00 screwdriver to access the MicroSD card slot on your New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL. Do not try to open it with inappropriate tools. As of now it is not exactly clear which screwdriver size is best, because Nintendo's official communication says it's a #0 but people have reported that this strips the screws and a #00 is better.

( ! ) Make sure that you have a card reader that can read SD cards and/or MicroSD cards. (This is not required for a select few of the results, consult the guide to see if you will need one at some point)

( ! ) The New Nintendo 3DS officially supports microSD cards up to 32GB. However you are able to use a larger microSD, as long as you format it to fat32 first. For this you will have to use a computer.
