Metal Detecting - Thanet Coast
This form is intended to give temporary landowner permission (lasting 2-years) for metal detecting on Thanet Council's foreshore, as it is all designated as the Thanet Coast Site of Special scientific Interest (SSSI) and needs to be managed ito keep in a favourable condition for its coastal habitats and wildlife.

Metal detecting is one of a number of recreational activities that takes place and needs to abide by local bylaws, bay information signs, avoid disturbance to coastal birds and wildlife (Thanet Coastal Codes: http://thanetcoast.org.uk/factfile/thanet-coastal-codes/), and avoid any damage to the chalk reef or man-made structures. This activity is suitable for our sandy beaches, but needs to full consideration of other the other beach users. Any holes dug during the activity must be filled back in to not leave any potential hazard.

Most importantly the activity should follow the 'Portable Antiquities Scheme's Code of Practice for Metal Detecting'* - including the reporting of any finds, as endorsed by Kent County Council's Heritage Section, and as applied to the nature of the Thanet Coast foreshore with its sandy beaches.
