The podcast titled “Sold a Story” explains inequities in reading skills in students and provides the story behind a flawed idea (i.e. the perceived effectiveness of Balanced Literacy approaches). The implications of teaching this flawed idea have propelled families that have access and funds to seek private tutoring, whereas students who are within impoverished areas do not have the same opportunities for reading intervention.
Please join the OSPA DEI Committee in taking a deeper dive into this podcast.
We are planning to keep this event open to our fellow OSPA members only as a benefit of our OSPA Community of Practice. However, if you would like to invite one colleague who is not a member of OSPA (your "plus one"), please note their name in this form.
Two discussions will be held via Zoom:
January 13th (discussion of podcast episodes 1-3)
February 3rd (discussion of podcast episodes 4-6)
The Zoom link for each session will be emailed to attendees closer to the session dates.
Thank you for considering continuing this important conversation!
