The competition is modeled after the real-world life cycle of a startup. In order to reach the final stage of the competition and have the opportunity to unveil their idea to the live audience, contestants will first need to complete a "Seed Round" and raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help fund cancer research. The rounds are as follows:
Seed Round: Once accepted into the competition, candidates launch a campaign to fundraise for the LLS and sell tickets to the dinner and gala. The fundraising minimum is $1K per candidate, achieved through ticket sales, traditional fundraising, sponsorships, etc.
Series A: Contestants pitch their ideas, concepts, and/or products in front of a panel of established VCs & Startup Founders and a live audience. Previous years' panels included judges from Andreessen Horowitz, SV Angel, 500 Startups, Founder’s Institute, and more.
IPO: Audience votes based on the candidates' pitches.
The company with the most points at the end of all three rounds wins the title of Mr.|Ms. Silicon Valley.
All funds raised from this event will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help fund groundbreaking cancer research, patient aid, and family support services.
Previous finalists have gone on to be part of Y Combinator, raised multimillion dollar rounds, gone on ABC's SharkTank and received unprecedented investments from the sharks ($1 million), won the MaiTai Extreme Tech Challenge Pitch Competition on Richard Branson’s private island, and more!
We look forward to having you as a contestant!
