Additional Background:
Minneapolis Public Schools Safe Routes to School is working toward a goal of every 4th and 5th grader learning how to ride a bicycle safely on the streets and trails of Minneapolis. To help reach that goal, MPS owns four bicycle fleets that travel from school to school, typically for two weeks at a time. Schools also have their own bike fleets or work with partners to bring biking education and experiences to kids. This school day program reaches most elementary schools in MPS - and kids have collectively traveled tens of thousands of miles on the streets and trails of Minneapolis.
We are certain that Minneapolis Public Schools could not achieve our bicycle education goals without significant support from external partners and community members--and that's where you come in. We periodically host volunteer work days to help ensure the 180 bicycles in the fleets are in top shape for our students. Individual schools also need help maintaining their fleets.
