In planning for New Student Orientation, the Orientation Planning Committee is looking for faculty and staff to assist with various roles and activities. Members of the Division of Student Affairs are asked to be available during all of orientation. We are asking for volunteers from all UMW Faculty and Staff to make this a successful and welcoming event.
New Student Orientation starts on Friday June 14th with Transfer Student Orientation, which is scheduled from 8-5pm. Starting on June 17th, there will be 6 sessions for first year students, each session lasting 1.5 days. A second Transfer Orientation is scheduled for Friday June 21st from 8-5pm.
Listed below are the dates for the 6 First Year Sessions:
Session #1: June 17th & 18th
Session #2: June 18th & 19th
Session #3: June 19th & 20th
Session #4: June 24th & 25th
Session #5: June 25th & 26th
Session #6: June 26th & 27th.
Below are descriptions of each of the activities we need support and approximate times are indicated. Please indicate your top 3 preferences.
Description of Roles:
1) Parking- assist with parking and directions for guests. Parking duties will start at 7am and conclude around 9:30am .
2) Greeters- talk with students and their guests and direct to programming as needed, stationed at various locations
3) Information Desk- there will be an information desk in Lee Hall throughout orientation and assistants are needed
4) Family/Guest Reception- representatives from various offices are needed to interact with families and guests during a dessert social from 6-7pm on Day 1 of First Year Orientation.
