NYC CLC-NYCOSH 2017 SAFETY & HEALTH SERIES - Bathroom Rights: Equitable Access and Health Risks in the Workplace
While employers are required to provide bathrooms for workers, issues with access to bathrooms are commonplace. This is especially true for workers who work at mobile or transient workplaces, such as transit workers and construction workers (especially women). Many worker populations face diverse challenges with access to a bathroom, notably: injured and disabled workers; transgender and gender non-conforming people; and older workers at stationary work settings. Beyond this issue as a worker’s right, there are health concerns. This forum will explore the issue of access to the bathroom and the health risks associated with “holding it in.”
