Language Survery SIGraDi
Dear members of the SIGraDi community,

We invite you to participate in a process of reflection that has started in recent years within the organization.
Year after year, the Local Organizing Committee, the International Executive Committee, the Advisory
Committee and the International Scientific Committee strive to set up a meeting and make a selection of
original works of high quality, showing the state of art in the research being developed in our field of
knowledge. On the one hand, what moves us to this moment of encounter is our rich, intense, fruitful and
friendly communication, which is SIGraDi’s main characteristic. On the other hand, we also hope that what is
produced and shared in these annual conferences has an impact beyond the time and place of the meeting.
From both perspectives, the languages used to communicate are a key factor. Our organization has historically
defined in its bylaws that its official languages are Spanish, Portuguese and English, both for the papers
presented (in oral and written form) and on its website. However, aside from the complexities and effort
involved in maintaining three versions of all the information (which is not always possible to do or to do in a
timely manner) discussion on whether to do so arises.
Our identity is of Latin origin, so it has been natural that the predominant languages are Portuguese and
Spanish. Yet, we know that in the academic world English is the most recurrent language and at our local level
it has also gained ground in different degrees. We therefore think it is very important to consult our members
about their opinion and experiences in order to better focus our future efforts. With this purpose in mind, we
would appreciate if you could answer the following questions.
