An introduction to the fundamental tools and principles used by the cinematographer to create cinematic images generated from the context of the story.
The participants will be introduced to different camera systems, formats and censors, filters and lenses. In class shoots will offer hands on training in camera operations and basic scene set ups. Participants practice the different camera department roles and responsibilities. The course will also offer an introduction to lighting techniques, tools and aesthetics.
The course includes lectures, screenings and discussions with focus on visualization, script breakdown, creating a film’s cinematographic style and collaborating with the director.
The course prepares students for the Advanced Cinematography and Lighting course.
