FAQs

1) Why are we doing this?
Everyone knows that BPD is understaffed. This means that there are less officers and detectives to canvas for security camera footage after a crime occurs. This network enables us to work around BPD's staff shortage situation so that we aren't negatively impacted. By alerting neighbors in the network we can ask for video footage quickly and efficiently. This is one part of the community's responsibility in community policing. It allows us to work together to help our neighbors who have been victims of a crime.

2) Will my privacy be invaded?
No! No one will ever have access to your cameras or your storage device/cloud account. This network is simply a way to identify where cameras are located in our neighborhood and a way to communicate with one another following a crime.

3) Why is this important or valuable?
Sadly, we are all familiar with our neighbors reaching out over Facebook and other social media platforms asking for camera footage near locations of crimes. The reality of our current situation is that privately owned security camera systems play a huge role in identifying criminals and solving crimes. They are what law enforcement officers refer to as force multipliers. They are the #1 tool in solving crimes! We believe that this neighborhood network will help serve the BPD Southern District in relation to crimes in/near our neighborhood.
