Class Selections 2018 - Senior DECATS
It's time to determine your DECATS experience! Be sure to read the course catalogue class descriptions in order to make informed choices. We encourage you to take courses that you think might challenge you, look unfamiliar, or seem like a risk. We find that most students have the best DECATS experience when they get out of their comfort zone and try something they're not sure about. Take a chance!

For pre-registered scholars, selection will begin on March 25 and end on March 30. On March 31, those new to the program will begin selecting classes.

DECATS is divided into two parts: your major, and your electives. Majors remain the same for the entire three weeks of programming; electives change from week to week.

You'll see that the schedule is divided into ten periods, which represent class times for your major and all of your electives.

Your major is Period 1, where you will spend three hours each morning. Please select your top three choices for major.

Electives for Week 1 = periods 2, 3, 4, which will meet in the afternoon.

Electives for Week 2 = periods 5, 6, and 7, which again meet in the afternoon.

Electives for Week 3 = periods 8, 9, 10. You guessed it: they meet in the afternoon.

In order to complete your schedule, you should choose three options for each of the periods 2-10. That means you'll choose your top three options for period 2; your top three options for period 3, and so on.

Some electives are offered many times throughout the three-week program. You may choose your favorite classes as your top options for multiple class periods, but you'll only be scheduled in them once. For example, if you know you can't live without the Forensics elective, you can make it one of your choices every time it's offered, but you'll only take it once during your time at DECATS. If, however, you only choose it as an option for a specific time period, the class may have filled up by the time you register, in which case you'd have to wait until next summer!

Some electives actually take two or three periods for various reasons. If you select an elective that takes two or three periods, make sure you've selected it for BOTH of the periods.

Course selections are processed in the order they're received, and they come with a time stamp so that we can be fair. However, our scheduler assures that every scholar, whether the first to select or the last to select, receives one of their three choices in each time period. As people register, we monitor and adjust course offerings for their popularity and reserve the right to cancel certain classes or offer others more frequently based on demand. That way, more students determine exactly what kind of DECATS experience they get.

Your schedule will be in your folder on the first day of DECATS, when we'll go over how each day will work. If you want to keep your own records of what you've requested, be sure to take notes as you're completing this form. You can also check www.srdecats.org for all updates. If we have questions about your preferences, we'll be sure to get in touch with you.

Remember, your selections need to be complete by APRIL 15. If they aren't, we'll have to assume that you're no longer interested in attending. Don't let that happen--we'll miss you!

...and now, have fun designing your DECATS experience!
