Venue EOI 2022
Film Hub Scotland is offering the unique opportunity for four exhibitors from across Scotland to create positions for emerging film exhibition talent from backgrounds underrepresented in the sector, under the New Promoter Scheme. The event costs, host organisation overheads and living wage of the New Promoter are covered by Film Hub Scotland funding.

This is the third edition of the Scheme, 10 organisations and 12 participants have successfully undertaken the programme over the last two years.

Participating organisations have commented that:

‘Both our organisation and the New Promoter benefited greatly from this opportunity and found it fitted in well to our organisational structure, complemented our team, and provided a unique opportunity for an emerging curator’.

‘Really loved working with our New Promoter. Super talented individual and great team member. Also great that there was a budget to go towards their events’.

The aim of the scheme is to increase the number of curators, marketers and film practitioners working in Scottish film exhibition who are marginalised by race, gender, age, class, and disability.

Each organisation can apply to appoint one New Promoter who will work for 3 days per week, for four months.

The New Promoter would be responsible for curating films in their programmes and publicise the accompanying events to general audiences with a focus on inclusion, diversity and outreach. Acknowledging that roles focused on film curation are typically combined with other areas such as marketing, negotiations, and fundraising, training will also combine these areas. We hope that the programme will enable participant exhibitors to support the development of emerging promoters whilst also benefitting from their insight and experience.

Throughout the process the New Promoter Coordinator will work with the partnering exhibitors to help co-manage the New Promoters. Working in consultation with the venue or festival, the New Promoter Coordinator will provide weekly task sheets, training in curation, day-to-day management and ongoing support via emails and weekly calls. They will also offer support to participating organisations ensuring that the scheme is effectively marketed, and that it attracts a diverse range of candidates.

The programme is open to both venues and festivals and will run between May – October 2022 and the positions should be carried out during this period.
