Inaugural workshop: Netherlands Chapter of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS)

Theme: Relationality – Relational Heritage Spaces
Date: 27 January 2026
Location: Courtroom, Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society, University of Groningen – Oude Boteringestraat 36, Groningen
Time: 10–17h

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Dutch Chapter of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies (ACHS), a new platform for researchers and practitioners working across the broad, interdisciplinary field of critical heritage. This chapter connects local initiatives in the Netherlands with a global ACHS network of over 3,000 members, fostering collaboration, dialogue, and innovation in heritage scholarship and practice.

This Chapter has been initiated by Shanade Barnabas, Manuela Ritondale, and Sabina Rosenbergova, in collaboration with the ACHS global network.

To mark this occasion, we are hosting an inaugural workshop on 27 January 2026 in Groningen. In anticipation of the upcoming ACHS Annual Conference in New Zealand, where relationality will be the central theme, this workshop invites participants to explore the concept of “weaving relational heritage spaces” from our situated perspectives in the Netherlands.

Programme:
1) Keynote (morning)
- Hester Dibbits (Reinwardt Academy)
- Cindy Zalm (Wereldmuseum Amsterdam)
Lunch

2) Workshop (afternoon)
