About:

WAM Collective Officers serve on the student leadership cohort of the Weisman Art Museum. Operating with the Department for Public Engagement and Learning, WAM Collective Officers learn about contemporary museum practices, plan programs and events, support outreach and campus engagement, and make connections between their studies and the museum’s resources.

They play a crucial role in helping the museum stay relevant and engaging for the UMN campus body by investigating arts and culture trends and exploring the future of museum practice. WAM Collective Officers engage with the museum's professional staff, artists, advocates, and the community on projects that reflect the concerns, interests, and passions of the student perspective.

WAM Collective is a registered campus life program through the UMN Office of Student Unions and Activities.

WAM Collective Mission:

WAM Collective serves as the student voice of and for the museum, acts as a bridge between the widely diverse student body of the U of M and WAM, advises staff on effective ways to engage the student body, and is proactive in promoting WAM throughout the University community and beyond.

PROGRAM CREATION PROMPT:

Part of your role as a WAM Collective Officer will be to help create student programming at the Weisman Art Museum (both on and off site).

Please respond to the following prompt and HAVE FUN! This is your opportunity to show us what kind of events you would like to see at the Weisman!  Don't sweat the small stuff too much.

Examples of past WAM Co. Student Programs:
- WAM Co. Study Nights
- Collaborative Mural at Spring Jam
- Live Music in the Galleries (found musicians through the School of Music at UMN)
- WAM JAMS Concert (in collaboration with Radio K)
You are given the opportunity to plan an event at the WAM that enhances student engagement with the museum. Please provide a list of materials you would need (if any) and 250-400 words describing the program. The most important thing to highlight in your proposal is the student engagement piece. How does this style of event offer something unique to students? How does it engage them with the museum? List specific outcomes.

If you want to include a guest speaker, musician, or other service, include the method of how you would find that service.

For example: If I want to find a student musician, I would reach out through the UMN School of Music Gig BoardOr if I wanted to collaborate with an external coffee cart company, I would reach out to local businesses that offer this service. Such as FRGMT or MPLS Coffee Cart Co.

Be imaginative and have fun!
