API Legal Outreach is a non-profit social justice organization founded in 1975. Our mission is to provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate legal and social services to the most marginalized segments of the community. We work on issues ranging from housing and immigration to domestic violence and seniors' rights.
What is the Youth Advisory Council (YAC)? The YAC is a cohort of high school student leaders dedicated to social justice, community organizing, and legal advocacy. As a YAC member, you will:
• Collaborate on community projects and social justice campaigns.
• Receive mentorship from legal professionals and community organizers.
• Develop leadership, public speaking, and advocacy skills.
Stipend: Members receive a $650 stipend every three months for their active participation.
Commitment: Meetings are held in person at our Oakland office every Sunday from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, plus occasional mid-week virtual subcommittee meetings.
Note: Some questions ask about identity and access needs. Your answers are confidential and help us build a cohort that reflects diverse lived experiences and ensure we can support your participation.
