Also include when you met or plan to meet with them.
I understand and agree to the following STEP policies:
  • STEP is designed to be done during senior year. Juniors should only apply if they have a special circumstance that prevents them from doing STEP their senior year.
  • The introductory courses, CMS.586 & CMS.587, should be done prior to STEP. Students who have done fewer prerequisites require permission from the STEP Manager.
  • The beginning of the fall semester is considered a "Pre-Practicum." Students need to pass their Gateway Task and receive satisfactory scores on their Professionalism Assessment in order to proceed to the "Practicum" phase of their student teaching.
  • In order to obtain state licensure, students are required to complete 300 Practicum hours in their placements.
  • Students must assume "full responsibility" of 1-3 classes for 100 of the 300 required Practicum hours. These hours must occur during IAP unless there is a special circumstance.
  • Student must be at their student teaching placements full-time during all of IAP. They should not be involved in any other activities outside of teaching.
  • MIT/Wellesley can only endorse students for licensure in the subject area of their student teaching placement. Other licenses can be obtained by taking other subject area tests in the future.
  • Completing STEP requirements does not guarantee a student will earn their MA license. They must also obtain their Bachelors, pass two state tests (MTELs), and submit an application via the online state portal (ELAR).
  • The STEP Application process is complete once the applicant submits this application AND the Teaching Program Plan.
