It is similar to bartering except that time is the only currency regardless of the skill or service being provided, with one credit equaling one hour, and can be exchanged with any other timebank member

These checks are performed because the potential member (candidate) will be interacting with other people, may visit or be visited by people in their homes, and may need to be around vulnerable members of society or pets
