Job Description: Oversee and guide a team of Beach Scouts to get kids outside on the water to give their adventurous side room to grow. The Lead Scouts  will be responsible for assigning tasks, monitoring progress, ensuring quality standards, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Key responsibilities include coaching team members, setting clear goals, resolving conflicts, and providing regular performance feedback. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering results and driving team success.


Essential Duties + Responsibilities:

  • Oversee ongoing training and development of Shift Leads and Beach Scouts

  • Track and report team’s performance

  • Notify Destin-Fort Walton Beach staff of any potential program issues including but not limited to inclement weather cancellations, outages or malfunctions

  • Utilize interpersonal communication skills with beachgoers, public safety officials, beach vendors and county staff

  • Act as first point of contact for all Shift Leads; disseminate information to Beach Scouts on behalf of DFWB staff, as well as communicate feedback from Beach Scouts to staff

  • Coordinate scheduling requests and publish Beach Scout schedule

  • Maintain current inventory of branded, class and outpost gear. Inform DFWB staff of any necessary restocks

  • Actively participate in program orientation and ongoing training specific to general destination knowledge, Little Adventures and technology components

  • Assist with administrative duties to support the overall Little Adventures program as needed

  • Create an exciting and positive environment that fosters curiosity, teamwork, and a sense of adventure

  • Lead by example in demonstrating enthusiasm, responsibility, and respect for teammates

  • Act as a mentor to Scouts and assist in their professional and skill development

  • Competent in working with a diverse group of participants and staff, adapting communication styles as needed

  • Offer support and guidance in leadership, team work, and skill building

  • Maintain clear communication with Scouts, Shift Leads, Experts, and DFWB Staff to ensure all details, concerns, and/or incidents are addressed properly

  • Operate county vehicles, including but not limited to sprinter vans and trailers, as part of assigned shifts. Responsibilities include safe and efficient vehicle operation, ensuring proper loading and unloading, and performing routine vehicle inspections to maintain safety and compliance

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Valid Driver's license

  • Valid Florida shoreline fishing license (free for residents) or Florida saltwater fishing license

  • Must be able to pass a swim tests

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35lbs

  • Must be able to handle and work with live marine animals

  • Must be able to work long hours in extreme outdoor conditions

  • Must be able to work up to 40 hours a week

This position requires you to work in a water based environment paddle boarding, snorkeling, surfing, etc. Are you a strong swimmer and are you comfortable working in various water conditions including swimming in the Gulf of Mexico? *
