    Admission Requirements

    Incoming Freshmen While the Honors College has no absolute admissions criteria, incoming freshmen with an ACT composite test score of 29 or higher or an SAT score of 1950 or higher AND a high school cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 will be automatically admitted following submission of an application. Students who do not meet the criteria for automatic admission may still be admitted on a provisional, rolling basis. Students should see Provisional Acceptance below. Transfer Students and Current UNM Students Transfer or current UNM students need a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and must have completed English 101 or its equivalent to be considered for admission to the Honors College. Provisional Acceptance Students who do not meet criteria for automatic admission may still be accepted to the College on a provisional, rolling basis. Students should complete an additional personal essay. The one-page essay should be about the student, the student’s goals, and the student’s interest in the UNM Honors College. Special consideration is given to essays that demonstrate academic/community involvement and strong written communication. The applicant may also submit a recommendation letter from a teacher or counselor who will need to address why the student is an excellent candidate for the College.

    Deadlines

    Applications are accepted on a rolling basis if you fully meet our admission requirements. We strongly encourage applications prior to February 1st for the fall semester and prior to November 1st for the spring semester.

    Section C: Honors College Options

    There are three options for participating in the Honors College. For more information on these options, please visit our website. Designation: http://honors.unm.edu/designation.php The successful completion of 15 credit hours in honors courses. Minor: http://honors.unm.edu/minor.php The successful completion of 24 credit hours in honors courses. Major: http://honors.unm.edu/major.php The successful completion of 120 credit hours in honors courses. Students interested in majoring in Honors must apply in the spring of their sophomore year.

    No further materials are needed to complete your application unless you are applying for Provisional Acceptance.
