Application Form Youth Speaker UNISDR Science and Technology Conference on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030

Youth have a vital role to play in the implementation, monitoring and review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR; http://www.preventionweb.net/files/43291_sendaiframeworkfordrren.pdf).

One important aspect of the potential contribution by youth is to bridge the gap in the science-policy interface and thereby ensure that DRR actions are taken based upon scientifically proven best practice.

To begin highlighting this important role, the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY) have worked closely with the hosting organisations of theUNISDR Science and Technology Conference on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, Place and Date (Geneva, 27-29 January 2016). Selected youth have been part of the planning of the conference. We have secured two speaking opportunities for youth and young people are encouraged to submit poster exhibition abstracts.

Do you want to be a youth speaker?

There are two opportunities for youth to speak and it will be in the following sessions:
- Use of innovations to improve monitoring and reporting of the SFDRR
- Leveraging science through capacity development and research

Requirements:
- Experience in DRR (research, studies or community actions)
- Have sufficient knowledge on Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction
- Be at the age of 30 or under at the time of the conference

The UN MGCY is an official General Mandated, self organised and open space within the UN for all interested young people to engage in intergovernmental and other negotiations/processes through policy design, implementation, monitoring and review.

You are all needed and welcomed here. Students, young professional, community actors, young scientists, activists, and experts. You can be an individual representative or represent your organization in this space. UN MGCY's role is to facilitate your participation and make sure everyone can contributed based upon their needs and qualities/experience.
