The Independent Democratic Conference is a group of 8 State Senators who were elected as Democrats but have agreed to support the Republican Senate leadership. This means that many progressive bills that pass in the Assembly never even come up for a vote in the Senate.
We believe that New York’s legislature should be a beacon of progressivism and a firewall against national Republican policies and tactics. We are calling on Senator Dave Valesky to leave the IDC and support a unified Democratic Party in Albany that can represent the large majority of New York voters.
