2014-2015 JAB Committee Chair Applications

The Juniata Activities Board (JAB) is seeking students to apply and interview for the 2014-2015 committee chair positions. Please complete the application below and submit by no later than 5:00 pm Friday, February 21, 2014. Position Descriptions/Responsibilities:
Committees (all) - Meet weekly with assigned JAB Execs and JAB advisors; maintain office hours within the Office of Student Activities during normal business hours; manage committee budget; meet bi-monthly with the Vice President of Administration and Finance; Attend required retreats/workshops; attend JAB social events; look for co-sponsoring opportunities with other clubs/organizations on campus; create and distribute sign-up sheets for events; and create in conjunction with the Vice President of Membership and Marketing artist welcome packets.


Friday Night Live/Up & Out (2 people) - Select and coordinate regular program schedule of movies, comedians, bands, etc.; coordinate a variety of off-campus trips; plan, coordinate, and execute alcohol-free alternative weekend programming (Friday – Saturday); report attendance at each event; collaborate with the Office of Student Activities for Homecoming and Family Weekend activities; create and distribute volunteer sign-up sheets; and be present at all FNL/Up & Out activities or arrange for assistant chair to be present.


Mountain Day (1-2 people) - Select three dates for Mountain Day which does not interfere with a number of other campus events as much as possible; do not share the date(s) of Mountain Day except with the Director/Assistant Director of Student Activities, Dean of Students, and the President of the College; select appropriate novelties, activities, and prizes (if applicable) for Mountain day; work with the Office of Student Activities in drafting contracts with vendors; work with the Office of Student Activities in securing the appropriate documents with the Rangers at Raystown Lake; work with Sodexo on selecting a lunch menu for Mountain Day; coordinate logistical needs with the Office of Student Activities and Facilities Services; select a Mountain Day co-chair (if applicable) with final approval from the JAB Executive Board; and create and distribute volunteer sign-up sheets.


Madrigal (2 people) - Select a theme for Madrigal; research and select an appropriate musical act for the dinner portion of Madrigal and for the dance; work with the Office of Student Activities in drafting contracts with vendors; work with Sodexo on selecting a dinner menu for Madrigal; coordinate Tenting as well as beverages/snacks that will be provided during the week; meet with Head Tent the night that tenting occurs and review all policies, procedures, and how the Madrigal committee will check-in with Head Tent; coordinate logistical needs with the Office of Student Activities, Conferences and Events, and Facilities Services; and create and distribute volunteer sign-up sheets;

Major Event (2 people) - Have a broad knowledge of musical genres; survey the campus community to see what musical acts appeals most. Please make sure that this survey includes artists within the Major Event budget; work with the Office of Student Activities and Degy Book Agency, Inc. in drafting bids and contracts with musicians and/or artists; work with the Office of Student Activities in securing vendor contracts (i.e., sound, lighting, staging, etc.); coordinate logistical needs with the Office of Student Activities, Conferences and Events, and Facilities Services; create and implement a detailed marketing plan; create, organize, and implement ticket sales plan; create and distribute volunteer sign-up sheets; and be present the day of Major Event or arrange for the assistant chair and other volunteers to be present.


Springfest (2 people) - Work with the Relay for Life chairs in selecting a theme for Springfest/Relay for Life; select appropriate novelties, activities, and prizes (if applicable) for Springfest/Relay for Life; coordinate logistical needs with the Office of Student Activities, Conferences and Events, and Facilities Services; work with Sodexo in selecting a dinner menu for Springfest/Relay for Life; work with the Office of Student Activities in securing vendor contracts (i.e., novelties, sound, staging, etc. (if applicable)); create and distribute volunteer sign-up sheets.


May Day (1-2 people) - Select a theme for May Day; coordinate and implement a decoration plan; research and select an appropriate musical act for the brunch portion of May Day (if applicable); work with the Office of Student Activities in drafting contracts with artists and vendors (if applicable); work with Sodexo on selecting a brunch menu for May Day; coordinate logistical needs with the Office of Student Activities, Conferences and Events, and Facilities Services; work with the Office of Student Activities, Community Service Office, and Chaplain’s Office in creating a nomination list of club/organization events, students, and faculty/staff to be recognized; work with the Office of Student Activities and Technology Solutions Center in updating the web-based nomination form (if applicable); select faculty and staff members to sit on the May Day selection committee; and create and distribute volunteer sign-up sheets.
