MERITO Academy/Blue-Green Schools 2019-2020 Project and Teachers Application
Since 2006, the MERITO Academy has provided 4th-8th grade educators with the tools to teach hands-on Earth and ocean science educational programming in the context of our region's riparian, coastal and ocean environments while addressing current environmental issues and collecting real scientific data. For the 2019-2020 school year, it is expanding its scope by providing project-based learning opportunities for the students to design solutions to make their school campuses more environmentally sustainable through the Blue-Green School's Project. As in previous years, all services and products are provided free of charge. We are seeking teams of 2 to 3 teachers per school from grade levels 4th – 8th (teachers in the same team do not have to teach the same grade level). Accepted teachers will receive access to curriculum, training on its use as well as lectures from expert scientists; funding for students transportation to watersheds, coastal sites, and the Channel Islands; guidance and mentorship of students during their elaboration of Blue-Green Schools Project proposals; the schools will receive sponsorship of up to $3,000 for most cost-effective proposal authored by their students to reduce waste production, water consumption, and school's runoff pollution. Teachers will receive $500 upon completion of the project. If you and your colleagues want to participate, fill up this form.
