SOAK*2025 Radical Inclusion Lead - Volunteer Interest Form

SOAK is seeking a Lead for its Radical Inclusion department!
Radical Inclusion works to create new pathways for underrepresented communities to access and have a voice at this incredible event. Now in its second year as an official SOAK position, we’re excited to continue this important work.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Individuals who are members of underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply. We are particularly focused on recruiting leads from nondominant cultures within our community (according to the SOAK*2024 census results).
  • Prior SOAK volunteer experience preferred and a demonstrated background in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Leading a department typically entails over 100 hours of work over the event cycle (Jan-May, typically a few hours a week, plus shifts on-site). Expectations include attending the monthly Lead's team meetings, individual department meetings, and as needed cross department meetings. The work includes a combination of pre-event and on-site work hours.

Are you able to commit to the time requirements outlined?
*
Department Leads are expected to collaboratively create their shift schedules and track volunteer hours, in addition to training their crews.

Please share any relevant people-coordinating experience you have (paid employment, volunteer work, and general social coordination experience all apply).
*
Department Leads are required to help create their budgets for the event cycle (templates and training are provided!), in addition to tracking your expenses over the event cycle.

Please share any relevant money managing experience you have (paid employment, volunteer work, and general social experience all apply -- e.g. managing purchases at your communal house, etc).
*
The SOAK Production team uses a number of online tools to help with event management, including Gmail, a shared Google Drive, Slack, and Volcor (our volunteer tracking software). We count on our Dept Leads using these tools as part of their role.

What is your familiarity with office software like those listed above? Do you have reliable tools such as internet and a computer? How do you feel about learning new programs as part of your role?
*
This role becomes part of our Leadership team. We are striving to build a culture of feedback and professionalism. What are some ways you see yourself contributing to that leadership culture?  *
Is there anything we should know about how we would support you to doing your best work at SOAK?
