Maternity leave & nursing mothers
This year the pandemic has revealed so many ways in which CPS needs to improve, and one of them is its treatment of nursing mothers when they return from maternity leave. Members like Lara Stachler, a Speech-Language Pathologist, who was denied pumping accommodations by CPS after multiple requests then had discipline brought against her when exercising her right to pump. If you’d like to read more about Lara's story, you can find it on Twitter @LaraLucy17
The CTU has recognized this need and has pushed CPS to provide pumping accommodations during the pandemic, however accommodations for nursing mothers will be needed long after the pandemic is over. The CTU Women's Rights Committee wants to increase the support for working, nursing mothers going forward. In order to keep up the pressure on CPS some information is needed. If you have had a baby in the past 3 years and/or if you are pregnant now, please take the time to answer these 15 questions. If you are at multiple schools, you should answer either generally or about your most problematic situation. The information will be kept private. If this does not apply to you but you can think of a member who is pregnant or recently had a baby, please reach out to them. Thank you for your time & consideration.
