Alarm Clock Academy - Online Visitor
Hello Online Visitor,

Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it? This project called "Alarm Clock Academy: A Minus Plato Questionnaire about Time and Awakening" was a collaboration between Minus Plato (a blog and online platform about Art and Education after Classics) and the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio about the experience of visiting William Kentridge’s installation "The Refusal of Time" which was on display between February 3 and April 15, 2018.

Anyway, even though the exhibition has passed and Kentridge's work is somewhere else in the world right now, we wanted to stay focused on the key ideas at the heart of the project - how an artwork moves through time and space, and becomes a point of connection between visitors, wherever and whenever they encounter it.

Did you know that the ancient Greek philosopher Plato invented the first alarm clock in human history? Well, he did. And do you know why? Because he wanted to ensure his students in the Academy were awake in time to attend his riveting lectures!

Anyway, so as not to take up any more of your precious time, let us move on to the questions.

1. Have you ever visited an exhibition at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio, USA? If so, what is the most memorable exhibition you remember seeing at the Wex?  If you have never been to or are not currently in Ohio, where are you in the world right now? What time is it there?
2. Did you visit William Kentridge’s installation "The Refusal of Time" at the Wexner Center for the Arts, Feb. 3-April 15, 2018? If not, have you seen 'The Refusal of Time' elsewhere in the world? Where and when did you see it?
3. What time did you wake up this morning and how did you spend your time between that moment and filling out this online questionnaire?
4. Would you have liked to have spent this time differently? If so, what would you have done?  
5. Over 6 years ago "The Refusal of Time" was first shown at dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, Germany. Where were you in 2012 and do you remember anything about what you were doing back then?
6. If you had a time machine and could go back to visit yourself at that time, what would you tell your past self about the present moment?
