Child/ren's Grade(s) for 2025-26 School Year

ADMISSION AMBASSADORS

SF Day Admission Ambassadors warmly welcome prospective families and help them get to know SF Day. Opportunities include leading tours, attending events like our Open House, supporting student visit days, addressing inquiries from potential parents/guardians, co-hosting social gatherings, highlighting home-school partnerships, and sharing parent/guardian volunteer opportunities at our school. 

Ambassador responsibilities vary depending on individual availability and comfort level. We encourage both new and returning families to participate! Engagement can occur in-person or via email, during weekdays, evenings, or weekends.

Ambassadors receive a comprehensive handbook and must attend an Ambassador Orientation & Tour Training.

ANNUAL FUND VOLUNTEERS

Annual Fund volunteers, known as Class Captains, serve as ambassadors for SF Day’s Annual Fund. They engage directly with self-assigned peer parents/guardians to inform and support them through the school’s Annual Fund campaign. 

Class Captains are asked to attend a 45-minute planning meeting in the fall, write handwritten notes to accompany Annual Fund Lettes, and encourage participation in the Annual Fund.

BREAKTHROUGH SF

Breakthrough works with motivated 5th - 12th graders from across the city, helping them get to college. Breakthrough also trains future educators and provides valuable service opportunities for SF Day 8th graders and alumni. 

SF Day parents/guardians are invited to get involved by serving on an advisory board, assisting with special events, hosting career days for Breakthrough students, and more.

COMMUNITY, CULTURE & ENGAGEMENT (CCE)

Building community, sharing culture, and engaging in deep learning about our world is core to realizing our school's mission. Volunteers can support the CCE office by helping with events like Cultural Journey Night (a night where our community comes together to share our cultures) and CCE Days. SF Day students participate in four CCE days each year, dedicated to service and learning about their communities. Students participate in projects related to each grade level's curriculum, venturing out into the Bay Area to learn and make a difference. Parent/Guardian volunteers are involved with partner organizations and as chaperones. As we look ahead to next year, our parent/guardian group IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity & Equity in Action) will evolve to the CCE Council.

Community Outreach coordinates a variety of all-school volunteer opportunities and traditions that provide even our youngest students and their families ways to engage with and support our San Francisco community together. Just one example: each Thanksgiving, SF Day families make and deliver meals for 250 senior citizen neighbors.

DOLPHIN TANK

Dolphin Tank is a showcase of student-led innovations tackling real-world challenges where students of all ages have the opportunity to “pitch” their ideas to panels of expert judges. Parent/guardian volunteers help plan the event and recruit and train judges as well as mentors for our young innovators.

FALL FESTIVAL

This annual community event includes crafts, games, trivia, storytime, and author panels, as well as a book fair where families can sponsor a new library book for our school collection. Volunteers help plan the event and provide support during the Festival.

FAMILY PHOTO NIGHT

One of SF Day’s most beloved traditions is Family Photo Night, which takes place each fall. On photo night, volunteers work with SF Day’s Advancement Office to keep things running smoothly and help families find their photographer’s temporary SF Day “studio.” Later, volunteers hang family photos throughout the school for our community to enjoy. 

GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY (GPSF)

Every spring, SF Day invites grandparents and special friends of our students to join a special morning program and visit at school. Parent/guardian volunteers work with SF Day’s Advancement Office to plan and support GPSF Day. 

GRATITUDE & CELEBRATION

Volunteers with Gratitude & Celebration plan and execute events throughout the school year to honor SF Day’s faculty, staff and administration such as Friday Treats and Teacher, Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week. There are opportunities big and small; please join us!

PGA COUNCIL

Every parent/guardian at SF Day is part of our Parents & Guardians Association (PGA), which works in partnership with school leadership to support and promote SF Day’s mission and values. This partnership focuses on building an inclusive school community, supporting a culture of volunteerism, fostering community-wide communication, encouraging parent/guardian education, and engaging with our larger San Francisco community. The PGA Council is the small leadership team from across grade levels that meets quarterly to discuss PGA goals and direction, and provide a forum for discussion with administration. Each council member also holds a leadership role and responsibilities. 

PGA Council members should understand and feel connected to SF Day’s mission, values and history. They must be sensitive to confidentiality and take care to recognize the interests of the school, especially when they may be distinct from the interests of a particular constituency, family or child. It’s helpful to have leadership experience in professional and/or volunteer settings, specifically working in a group with diverse perspectives and identities, in communicating sensitive information across different audiences, and in building community. Please note that due to the small number of positions available each year, not every interested parent/guardian will be asked to fill this role. 

ROOM PARENTS/GUARDIANS

Room Parents/Guardians are grade-level community leaders who: support our teachers; communicate with their classes about SF Day events and activities; create an inclusive and welcoming community; and foster a culture of volunteerism. While some Room Parent/Guardian responsibilities vary by grade, all Room Parents/Guardians are part of the Room Parent/Guardian Council, which meets four times each year.

ROBOTICS QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT

SF Day hosts the First Lego League Qualifying Tournament each fall, supporting our Digital Dolphins competitive teams. It's an all day event one Saturday in November.

SF DAY FEST

SF Day Fest is our biggest community-building and fundraising event. Held each spring, all funds raised benefit the adjusted tuition program. There are a variety of different volunteer opportunities connected with SF Day Fest, which all offer great ways to get involved and to meet other parents/guardians outside your grade level(s)!​​​​​​

SPEAK

SF Day is part of SPEAK, a consortium of eighteen K-8 independent schools located in San Francisco and in Marin Counties.  SPEAK’s mission is to help the students in our member schools thrive by providing quality education to the parents, guardians, and educators in our community.  SPEAK does this by providing parent education about the most pressing needs of children or families in our communities (and occasionally beyond our communities) at the time of the event. 

All SF Day parents/guardians are invited to SPEAK events, and there is no need to sign up here in order to attend! However, each SPEAK member school fills from 1-4 seats on SPEAK’s Board of Directors. If you might be interested in attending SPEAK’s monthly Board meetings and helping plan SPEAK events, please let us know.
