Foster and Adoption Application - Fitchburg Friends of Felines

We offer a foster to adopt program, to ensure the kitty you get is the right fit for you, your family, and current pets in your household. All applicants start as foster parents, with the option to adopt their kitty or kitties. Adoption fees are $200 per kitty, or $350 for exotic breeds. All vetting is done by Fitchburg Friends of Felines, which includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping, and FIV/FELV testing. You agree that your kitty cannot be adopted until all vet appointments and follow-ups are complete. We are happy to work with you to transport to the vets' when needed, should any outstanding appointments occur. When full vetting and microchipping is complete, and it is determined that the kitty is the right fit for your family, that kitty would be considered available for adoption. With almost all of our kitties, vetting is already complete by the time you get your new companion. The process of foster to adopt requires the completed application below, as well as two character references that can verify you will be a good caregiver to your new kitty/kitties, a veterinarian reference, a site visit (which can be done virtually) to ensure your home is safe for your new pet, and landlord information (if applicable) to verify that you are able to have cats in your home. We also request that you consider the 3-3-3 rule for pet adoption, which requires both patience and persistence: 3 days to allow your new kitty to decompress, 3 weeks to acclimate to their new environment, and 3 months to call their new place home. We also recommend a gradual integration for most of our kitties if there are other pets in the house, which requires a sanctuary room in the beginning to allow your kitty to decompress, then different steps that use the senses to get your new pet used to the current pets, and they get used to their new housemate. This will be reviewed in detail should you wish to proceed. We do require that all members of your household are onboard with fostering or adopting a new pet, and can work together to ensure a smooth transition for all people and pets to welcome a new kitty or kitties into your home.
